Four Corners Aggressiveness and Fitness

This soccer drill focuses on aggressiveness in winning 50/50 balls and fitness. This drill will be more beneficial for players under 8 and older.

Key Points

  • Setup: A 30x30 yard grid with four corner cones.
  • Players: 8 +
  • Objectives: Enhance aggressiveness in winning 50/50 balls, improve fitness, and develop ball control under pressure.
  • Rules:
    • The coach stands outside the grid near the middle of two side cones with a supply of soccer balls.
    • The coach plays a ball into the centre of the grid and shouts a command (such as “GO”) to begin play.
    • The first player in each of the four lines must sprint after the ball, attempting to reach it first.
    • Once a player wins the ball cleanly, they must hold possession from the other players for 5 seconds before passing the ball back to the coach.
    • If another player steals the ball, they then attempt to hold possession for 5 seconds.
    • A team scores a point by successfully holding possession for 5 seconds and making a return pass to the coach.
    • The first team to reach 5 points wins.
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • Coaching tips:
    • Encourage players to approach the ball aggressively with speed, determination, and vigour.
    • Emphasise the importance of ball control and protecting the ball from opponents.
    • Remind players to stay alert and react quickly to the coach's commands.
    • Keep the drill energetic and maintain a high level of intensity to boost fitness.
  • Variations:
    • The coach can play different types of balls such as flighted balls, bouncing balls, rolling balls, or balls with large amounts of top or back spin.
    • Increase the difficulty by reducing the grid size to enhance competition and quick decision-making.
