Four Corners Aggressiveness and Fitness
This soccer drill focuses on aggressiveness in winning 50/50 balls and fitness. This drill will be more beneficial for players under 8 and older.
Key Points
- Setup: A 30x30 yard grid with four corner cones.
- Players: 8 +
- Objectives: Enhance aggressiveness in winning 50/50 balls, improve fitness, and develop ball control under pressure.
- Rules:
- The coach stands outside the grid near the middle of two side cones with a supply of soccer balls.
- The coach plays a ball into the centre of the grid and shouts a command (such as “GO”) to begin play.
- The first player in each of the four lines must sprint after the ball, attempting to reach it first.
- Once a player wins the ball cleanly, they must hold possession from the other players for 5 seconds before passing the ball back to the coach.
- If another player steals the ball, they then attempt to hold possession for 5 seconds.
- A team scores a point by successfully holding possession for 5 seconds and making a return pass to the coach.
- The first team to reach 5 points wins.
- Duration: 15 minutes

- Encourage players to approach the ball aggressively with speed, determination, and vigour.
- Emphasise the importance of ball control and protecting the ball from opponents.
- Remind players to stay alert and react quickly to the coach's commands.
- Keep the drill energetic and maintain a high level of intensity to boost fitness.
- Variations:
- The coach can play different types of balls such as flighted balls, bouncing balls, rolling balls, or balls with large amounts of top or back spin.
- Increase the difficulty by reducing the grid size to enhance competition and quick decision-making.
