Arrival Game (Goalkeeper in focus)

This traditional arrival activity is set to start for as soon as players start to arrive, giving a fun football environment within which we can start to apply learnings. The skill focus for this session is goalkeeping rules. Handling in box-only and basic positioning and distribution.

  • Setup: A 9m x 14m pitch with a goal at each end.
  • Players: 2-13
  • Objectives: Relaxed game of football which scales up as more players arrive. Allow players to have fun, primary input is focussed on the fundamentals of goalkeeping. Ensure all players get an opportunity to play in goals.

    • Standard football rules
  • Duration: 10-15 minutes
  • Coaching tips:
    • Have spare balls ready to avoid breaks in play
    • Ensure that all players get an opportunity to go in goals
    • Encourage skills and learnings from previous weeks
    • Allow players to improvise
  • Variations:
    • Introduce a limit on touches to increase decision speed.
